1898 Faculty for Church Bells repairs.
FACULTY for repairing, recasting and adding a fourth Bell in the Church of Little Bromley in the Diocese of St Albans
John Wogan by Divine Permission Lord Bishop of Saint Albans to the Reverend Harry Holdsworth Minchin, Rector and William Henry Grimsey, churchwarden in the parish of little Bromley in the county of Essex and Diocese of Saint Albans
GREETING whereas a petition hath been presented to the worship full Alfred Bray Kempe, Master of Arts, our Vicar General and Official Principal, and filed in our Episcopal and Consistorial Court of Saint Albans by and on your behalf SHEWING,
THAT for diverse reasons in the said Petition mentioned, it is expedient to make certain alterations in the Church of the said Parish and hereinafter more particularly described, and THAT at a Meeting of Parishioners of the said Parish in Vestry assembled on the 22nd day of July 1898, pursuant to public notice previously given according to law the following resolutions were agreed to:
THAT the modern bell be recast and a new fourth bell be purchased and arrangements be made for eventually putting in two more new bells that the 2 old bells be quarter-turned and four complete sets of fittings being made that the Bell frame he put into thorough repair and a new floor under the bells and knew trapdoor be put in and chiming hammers with complete apparatus for chiming be put up and the bells properly tuned
And whereas it was prayed that a Faculty or License should be granted for all and singular the purposes in the said Petition mentioned
And whereas upon the decree of our said Vicar General a Citation duly issued and was published citing all persons having or pretending to have, any right, title or interest in the Premises, if they wished to object to such Faculty or License being granted to enter an appearance and shew cause why a Faculty should not issue according to the prayer of the said Petition and further intimating to all persons so cited, that if no such appearance as aforesaid should have been entered or no sufficient cause should be shewn to the contrary, a Faculty was liable to be granted for the purposes aforesaid without further notice
And whereas our said Vicar General rightly and duly proceeding upon the return of the said Citation (no appearance having been entered within the time therein stated) did decree a Faculty to be granted to you the said Harry Holdsworth Minchin and William Henry Grimsey for the purposes hereinafter set forth.
Now, WE the said Bishop, do by these Presents ratify and Confirm whatever our said Vicar General has done, or caused to be done, in and about the premises, and in pursuance of the said Decree, so far as by the Ecclesiastical laws of this realm and the temporal laws of the same, we may or can, do give and grant unto you our Faculty or License to authorise and empower you, or the majority of you for the time being TO repair and recast certain of the Bells belonging to the Parish Church of Little Bromley aforesaid and to add a fourth bell thereto as specified in the above mentioned Resolutions.
GIVEN under the seal of our Vicar General which we use in this behalf the Sixth day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ninety eight and in the ninth year of our Consecration
